Due to unforeseen
circumstances the event clashed with Revesby Show and a MDTG at Moreton
Morrell so some members were committed elsewhere, however there were
still nine turnouts to test the new course.

The University of Lincoln's Riseholme
Campus has been designated as a 2012 Olympic training camp for
equestrian sports.
The dressage arena, marathon
obstacles and the cones course were constructed the day before the
event. Angela and Greg designed the cones course which consisted of 10
sets of cones that were used twice, by driving the first ten and then
turning around to do the same cones in reverse, four obstacles were
constructed using the existing terrain and trees and this year we were
able to use the old golf course to spread the obstacles and increase the
marathon distance.
Sunday saw the novice class start
the dressage and this was won by Gill Patrick, 59 penalties, driving her
daughter’s pony Joey, Gill was closely followed by husband Nigel just 2
penalties adrift. The open class was won convincingly by Sarah Braybrook
with 68 penalties.
The cones course held some
surprises and it is the first time the club have used the reverse route
strategy. The results were mixed but no one got eliminated unlike the
Honington cones course that claimed several competitors. The Novice
class was won by Sue Smith with 3 down but the fastest run of the day.
The open class was won by Duncan Seth-Smith who completed the only clear
round of the day.
The first obstacle in the afternoon
was set in the woods and it was a fairly straight forward circle Nigel
Patrick was quickest novice while Duncan S-S took the open from Sarah
Braybrook. Obstacle 2 was set in the Bomb hole and the first three gates
were all visible with the last gates on top of the far bank. Gill
Patrick took the novice win while Duncan S-S had obviously fed Rambo on
Red Bull and took the open win.
The route then took competitors
out of the woods and onto the old golf course to obstacle 3, set in a
spinney at the edge of the fairway. This one was quite twisty with
several rein changes. Nigel Patrick [45.6secs] took the novice win from
wife Gill [49secs] Team Rambo took the open win followed by Sarh
Braybrook in second.
The course zig zagged around the
golf course to the final obstacle again set in the trees dividing the
old fairways. Nigel Patrick again took the novice win from wife Gill
while Duncan Seth-Smith pulled out all the stops, cut corners through
the trees and overhanging branches to gain extra seconds and took the
open class.
Next year we hope to get the water
obstacle upgraded and included in the course which will just add the
final touch.
Many thanks to all the
helpers for giving their time setting everything up on Saturday; also
the crew who dismantled everything on Sunday. Thank you to the Stewards
who did a great job as always.
