Poacher Members got to the Osberton Estate

July 5th

With no organised event on July 5th, and several members engaged elsewhere Clive organised for a few members to do a recce on the Osberton Estate, with the hope that we could use the venue next year.

There was a second reason and that was to give Trefor, Clive's youngster, a taste of driving in company and some water training.

The group met at the estate at 11.00am where there was hard standing for the vehicles.Clive went off with the equestrian manager to check where we could go. When he returned he had a large grin from ear to ear and he assured us we would be inpressed.

The route was about 10 miles on smooth estate tracks and tarmac roads, with no other traffic.

Trefor showed a fear of dried reeds that were laying across the track and he promptly turned around and came nose to nose with Jo Gleadle's Alfie who was not having any young horse mucking about, and refused to let Trefor past. Clive turned them around and they continued.

At about six miles we came to a river crossing where we played for some time and Trefor overcame his fear of water,[see pics]

We had to miss out some of the route because it was blocked by an irrigation jet blasting water across the track.

The weather held apart from a light shower but the scenery was great, with some slight hills to make it interesting. It would be an ideal venue for an event next year if we could arrange something in June - watch this space.
